Boy Scout Troop 770 of Summerlin Las Vegas Heads to Valley Of Fire State Park

Along with mentor Troop 912, we attended an activity packed campout at the Valley Of Fire to have fun, bond and complete various Junior Leadership Training (JLT) exercises where the Scouts learned how to work through numerous challenges as a team.

One of the highlights of the campout for the Scouts, other than climbing rocks, was to take their go at throwing a long arrow using The AtlAtl, an ancient spear used for hunting. Troop 770 Scout Joshua R was the champion having hit 3 targets out of 6 throws.

After a safety and skills demonstration, all of the Scouts were able to take their swing at chopping up some fire wood using a hatchet which will go towards their earning their Boy Scout Totin’ Chip card.

The new Scouts from Boy Scout Troop 770 are getting better at cooking tasty meals (especially pancakes) and after Connor K and Joseph G-W successfully built and started a “one match” cooking fire, prepared and ate their first foil wrapped dinner which was cooked on the hot open fire coals–yummy!

Finally, some of the Scouts participated in an introduction to orienteering lesson followed by a 5-mile hike lead by Tenderfoot Scout Joseph G-W who is working on earning his Second Class Rank.
