Today the Boy Scouts of Troop 770 kicked off the hiking merit badge program with the 11.4 mile Grand Circle hike in Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area.

12 Scouts accompanied by 7 adult advisors completed the first of six required hikes for the merit badge. This was the longest hike many of these Scouts had ever completed in a single day.

The Scouts must complete at least five 10 or more mile hikes and one 20 or more mile hike each in a separate single day. In addition the Scouts will be learning how to properly care for the environment using Leave No Trace principles as well as preparing themselves for possible hazards that occur in the outdoors while hiking.
